Why subscribe?

Pre-pandemic, this newsletter was focused on listing upcoming shows in NYC and writing about live music. Hopefully one day it’ll be like that again! For now, if you subscribe you can expect updates on what I’m writing, reading, and listening to each week. Topics will vary, but I mostly write about music, politics, and the intersection of those interests.

About the Writer

My name’s Alyana, and my pronouns are she/hers. I’m a Massachusetts native and writer. You can find my work in AdHoc, The Fordham Observer, and City A.M. I use this newsletter as a way to write casually and as a platform to talk about live music and adjacent topics with other fans. I don’t have any formal training in music criticism/journalism, so I’ll often write through topics I’m interested in learning more about (like talking out loud).

If you like the newsletter and want to stay in touch, feel free to follow me on Twitter (@alyanavera) or Instagram (@shortattheshow). I also have a website if you want to learn more about me or commission me.

I’m still learning, so if you ever want to respond to something I’ve written or offer some constructive criticism, feel free to reach out! Thoughts, opinions, etc. develop over time and I honestly want to hear from you. You can hit ‘reply’ on any email I send out—all of the responses go straight to my inbox!
